GOP POPULARITY ?
Things are looking up for the Republicans, relatively speaking. President Obama's poll numbers have dipped
There's just one problem: The country still doesn't like Republicans.
A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll last week captured the public's mixed verdict. The headlines focused on growing doubts about Obama's health-care plan and the drop in his approval rating, from 60 percent in February to 53 percent now.
But the same poll found that while Democrats as a party had a net positive rating of five points (42 percent positive to 37 percent negative), the GOP faced a 13-point deficit. Only 28 percent rated the Republicans positively; 41 percent rated them negatively.
Perhaps this has something to do with how few positive things Republicans have to say. As a result, the GOP is being defined by extremist voices who have faced little push-back from its leaders.
The extremists include the "birthers" who, against all evidence, insist that Obama was not born in the United States and thus is ineligible to be president. These guys are so out there that party leaders and conservative commentators have started to disown them.
To take advantage of the opportunities that might come their way, Republicans will have to make themselves an acceptable alternative. They have not done this yet. Facing down extremism and breaking out of the party's regional enclave would be good places to start.

al, I believe organized protests have their place in our society, if the protests are citizen-le
d and citizen-or ganized. In the case of protests at recent town halls, one of the chief organizers is a D.C. lobbyist who represents pharmaceut ical companies. I don't believe lobbyists should be involved in such protests, because they taint the process. -
puritanicoal, 7 months ago | FlagPB, you think health insurance coverage is a challenge for you now? You think leaders like Palin and Perry aren't supporting special needs children? If Obama-care passes, your son and my daughter won't stand a chance to get good quality, aggressive healthcare; especially as they get older.
Chassan - what's wrong with organizing protests? Someone's got to organize them. Of course it would have to be Republicans and conservatives. Liberals are trying to create a single-payer system (socialism) in our country. Who else would organize the protests? Do you think before you write?
Both of your responses are by definition un-American.
Or, maybe both of you are trying to keep from being reported to the White House as one of those who dissent from the President's healthcare proposal. How scary is that? http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/08/gop-senator-white-house-encroaching-on-first-amendment.html

infuriated by the "assininity & stupidity" of the comments by PBmom....
Perhaps, you "should go back to facebook"...(maybe..even your classmates can't take you!)
I cannot "believe" that I "once had some respect for this individual"...!
I_right_I is "RIGHT ON"...every word He said is "right on target"....!!!
(I suspice tha there are "MANY" who profess this ideaolgy, & soon they will speak out!)
I have not attended a political "meeting" in 40 years, & when I do..things have to be "pretty bad"..!
I have been to 3 already in 6 months..!
People are "TIRED"of this "asinine legislation...."
They are "tired" of this "pacified" line of B.S., while you "take their money"...!!!!

Former Member , 7 months ago | FlagAnd these hateful, screaming people showing up at these town hall meetings, blocking people from having an honest conversation with their representative about health care reform....Let me just say this about that. Those "hateful screaming people" are mad and frightened that this all encompassing bill that will give the power of life and death to the federal government is being pushed down their throats when NOT ONE proponent has read the bill or knows exactly what's inside. These hateful screaming people just might save your bacon lady. How is it you who depend heavily on taxpayer funded health care programs and private insurance can be so obviously ignorant of what socialized medicine will do TO YOU and your CHILD if this is allowed to go forward. How is it you can just take the word of people you don't know that THIS MUST PASS AND PASS QUICKLY without the slightest hint of skepticism or one little question? If this is the best you can do you for your country maybe you should give up your right to vote.I don't like that the insurance companies are using our premium money (and denying people who are submitting claims) to drum up this thug-like behavior.Ah, it's the insurance companies is it? Who told you that? Show me the website you got that little piece of information from. I want to see how the insurance companies can afford to pay all those tens of millions of Americans who DON'T WANT SOCIALIZED MEDICINE. Are you really that brainwashed. Show me where the insurance companies have paid for ANY anti Obama health care advertising. Do you just make this crap up as you go along? Yes, I think you do. Maybe Obama and ACORN is PAYING YOU.
By the way, your buddy Randy got booted off the website yesterday. Made quite the fool of himself in the process too I might add. I'll miss him. -
PBMom, 7 months ago | FlagThanks Chassan. I've been playing on Facebook, connecting
with a lot of old friends from high school. Hard to keep up with both sites. Healthy dissent is a good thing if it is done with respect. I don't like that the insurance companies are using our premium money (and denying people who are submitting
claims) to drum up this thug-like behavior. I think that kind of behavior turns people off which is why you are seeing the numbers you stated above. I saw tonight there was a Gallup poll done that said 42% of Texans are now Democratic or Democratic -leaning versus 40% Republican or Republican -leaning. I found that to be quite interestin g. Don't know where the other 18% of the people in the poll went though (LOL).
